This year, the NY Art Book Fair is honored to host three exhibitions which survey the work of individuals whose contributions have enriched the field of artists’ books:
An Homage to Mike Kelley
(Gallery G)Gagosian Gallery presents a tribute to the late artist Mike Kelley(1954-2012), a portrait in the form of a library with a selection of materials reflecting cultural and intellectual interests and passions that each contributor to the library associates with the late artist.
In Memoriam: The Book Catalogs of Steven Leiber
(Performance Dome) Printed Matter, Inc. presents a tribute to the late Steven Leiber(1957-2012), featuring his infamous sales catalogues, together with the legendary publications that they mimicked, drawn from the collection of Philip Aarons.In Memorium: the Publications of John McWhinnie
(Performace Dome) The NY Art Book Fair presents a tribute to the late John McWhinnie(1968-2012), including a complete collection of the books that he published in his lifetime.THE CLASSROOM
A curated series of informal conversations, workshops, readings, and other artist-led programs, with continuous enrollment for all fair-goers throughout the weekend. The Classroom is organized by David Senior, Museum of Modern Art Library.

Matt Wolf, I Remember: A Film About Joe Brainard
Joe Brainard (1941�1994) was an artist and writer whose evocations of memory and desire perhaps found their greatest expression in his memoir-poem I Remember. Filmmaker Matt Wolf returns to the text in his film I Remember: A Film About Joe Brainard. This archival montage combines audio recordings of Brainard reading from the poem, as well as an interview with his lifelong friend and collaborator, the poet Ron Padgett. The result is an inventive biography of Joe Brainard, and an elliptical dialog about friendship, nostalgia, and the strange wonders of memory. 24 mins, 2012.

The dearth of public commentary on photo and art books and the scant attention paid to art writing can be disheartening. There’s a ‘Best American Writing on Mathematics’ series but none for art? Book as Performance
Viewing party for "2013," by Justin James Reed, released earlier this year. The book utilizes ink that can only be viewed under ultra violet light and was created with performative experience and communal viewings in mind. Anouk Kruithof, Enclosed Content Chatting Away in the Colour Invisibility
Screening of a video that documents Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof’s installation of roughly 3,500 found Eastern European books written under communism, which have been exhibited throughout Europe since 2009. The books were used to construct a wall, with their colours and sizes determining its rhythm.8:00 pm
Reuben Lorch-Miller, The Human Dam
Using the cult classic A Bucket of Blood as hit catalyst, Lorch-Miller embodies the protagonist Walter Paisley and performs an exorcism of sorts, freeing Walter from art, guilt, and desire. The Electric Information Age LP
(Performance Dome) A multimedia collaboration between DJ/composer Daniel Perlin, designer/ musician Adam Michaels, and historian/performer Jeffrey Schnapp. Perlin, Michaels, and Schnapp have formed the group The Masses (with live keyboards by Shannon Harvey) in order to remix their recent book on experimental paperbacks, The Electric Information Age Book. Can you dance to a book? The question was answered in the affirmative by the first spoken arts record you can dance to: the Marshall McLuhan, Quentin Fiore, and Jerome Agel record album The Medium is the Massage.
